Client:
Mandalay
Resort Group (formerly Circus Circus Enterprises) comissioned
Trumbull Inc. to develop the thrill rides inside the Luxor
Hotel.
This project was led by four time Oscar-winner
Douglas
Trumbull ("2001: A Space Odyssey," "Close
Encounters of the Third Kind," and "Back to the
Future-The Ride").
Project: The Luxor
Las Vegas Hotel wanted to create a three-part high-tech trilogy
called "Secrets of the Luxor Pyramid" including:
a four-minute simulator ride; a 17-minute segment combining
Showscan, large screen video and 3D film; and a three-minute
finale in vertically oriented VistaVision, projected on a
six-story curved screen.
This project put Las Vegas on the map
as a serious new marketplace for high-tech special venue entertainment.
The mission was to literally shake, rattle and roll Las Vegas.
Involvement: KOMOTION's
principal was the Previsualization Supervisor on this project,
responsible for creating the Escher-esque virtual environments.
He also led the R&D on creating
the functional and aesthetic form factor of the actual motion
ride simulator and devised processes to mitigate distortions
introduced by the fish-eye lens.
